However the way banks now use AI and chatbots for everything makes reporting/disputing transactions online (or via bank app) or by phone ultra-frustrating.

FFS! I've blocked my card until I go in person to bank branch (yes it still has one here) and deal with the matter. In fact there are two fraudulent transactions - another one for $298 from an entity I've never had anything to do with.
