My bf's kid is the richest person I know

Seriously. This child has drawerfuls of cash, several savings accounts that accrue interest, she's set to inherit thousands from multiple people upon those people's deaths, she has ALL the latest tech, ALL the trendy clothes/jewelry/beauty products, she gets her hair cut at the most expensive salon in Scottsdale, she was wearing diamonds in her ears at 3 yrs old, and she just told me that she "gave away" her entire American Girl Doll collection.

She's 11.

Then there's me, who is 44 and still struggling to build up my savings account. 🤡

Must be nice to have a family who actually plans ahead for you to benefit from generational wealth.

My daughter is a bit like that. She started working at the grocery store when she was 14 and saved her money and didn't spend much. When she was 18 she had $15K in the bank and actually invested in a mutual fund. Man when I was a teen, I had no money! We also saved money for her education in a special government fund.

I respect her because she earned it. When I was a teen, I didn't work as much and blew all my money.

It's great that the family planned for her future, but I hope she understands how to be grateful for what she has and that not everyone gets to be in a position like her. I also hope she doesn't grow up with a sense of entitlement, thinking she should get everything she wants. I have seen how spoiling children can cause more harm than good. My parents allowed my brother to get away with everything and gave him everything he wanted growing up and now they sitting with him as an adult in his thirties paying the price.

So sorry.

I grew up lower middle class. I was cared for well, never hungry, always clothed, educated (public schools), etc. I never had to do chores or work, just do my homework, and play. I never had hip clothes (much came from the Goodwill), treats, gadgets, or my own money.

My dad supported my college, I got grants for good grades, and took out loans. Graduate school was free as long as I taught (this is good for the school since they do not have to hire professors, yet bad for students since they get rookie teachers only a few years older than them!).

After graduate school my wealth fell to $500 before I found a job. But it was decent pay, so I paid off my loans after a few years. Since then, I've gotten promoted 4 times, and got cost of living increases, and my salary is five times more (yet less valuable in real terms, due to 26 years of inflation). I have ample savings, and can retire in 7 years.

But my body is falling apart. I wish I could buy good health. Pork and cookies cost money, but not eating pork and cookies is free. Exercising is free.

My hope is to die penniless. I do not wish to leave anything behind. Nobody deserves it, yet.
