I haven't had a refund per se in years. One year, I overpaid the state income tax in my blue state by $17,000. My accountant said "screw them, lets have them send you a check". But the state was out of money. It took (I swear this is a true story) 5 years to receive that refund.
The following year I owed $15k in state taxes but could not apply the overpayment towards it. I had to write yet another check. Moral of the story:
NEVER ASK FOR A REFUND IN A BLUE STATE. ROLL IT OVER.

Got mine in March, paid a nice chunk off my credit card and gave my daughter a large amount for her birthday for her trip to Paris and Barcelona.

I've taken a new approach. I don't like the IRS holding my money, so I do estimated payments every quarter. That way come tax time, we are pretty much even up.

I can't tell you because they will tax that too!
