People in Silicon Valley are NOT RICH by any means.

In fact, they are barely middle class if that. The fact is, that the value of a dollar in Silicon Valley is completely different then the value of a dollar in the rural south. And fascist talk radio hosts state the same weasel over and over and over again praying on their less educated audience in rural areas.

The value of a dollar in Silicon Valley is about $3.50-1 in the rural south which is never explained by fascist talk show hosts repeting Silicon Valley tec worker salaries over and over and over again.

Growing up in California we used to refer to the "land-rich": those fortunate enough to have inherited a section or more of land from their ancestors, or shrewd enough to have bought acreage in S.F. or L.A. for 10 cents an acre when both were looked at as little more than pretentious small towns by the rest of the world. Today the "land-rich" in California -- not just the Silicon Valley -- are those who bought a starter home in pre-Prop 13 days and seen their original investment of $20-25,000 now worth a $1 million plus while paying comparatively nothing in property taxes because of Prop. 13.

$200,000+ a year equates to middle income in San Francisco.

Middle class isn’t a thing. Middle income is. As is low income, high income etc.

Low middle or high incomes are relative to where you live and what buying power they give you.

@justanothername $450k a year is what it takes to be middle class in San Francisco for a family of 4.

I don't go by what takes 2 full time working adults just to get by. To be a middle class family of 4 i go by head of household primary breadwinner income only.

@Alabamarednek If $450K is what it takes to be a middle income family of four then that’s what it takes. In San Francisco both men and women get computer science degrees and jobs to go with them rather than applying your outdated methodology.
