I Was Paddled In High School

Every time I was paddled at scool, I got the belt when I got home

Our principal's paddle was not kept on display, but hidden in a supply closet in his office. When I was paddled I was facing front, but I heard him open the closet door behind me and then shut it again, so I figured that's where he kept the paddle. My principal did not really like to paddle, so he kept it hidden from view--unlike principals of neighboring schools who had their paddles permanently out and ready for action!

During the time I went to high school, in the early 1970's, paddling was not an option--it was a sentence. Our principal was the one who had the option of giving the student detention or the paddle, depending on the crime. The fact that I asked him if I could take a paddling rather than serve detention was a very bold move on my part! But he reluctantly agreed and gave me six swats. I was spared detention, but my bottom was bruised for a week.

My Mom never spanked me again at home after I was punished in school. She felt that the school had taken sufficient care of the problem and there was no need for "reinforcement." But I only got in trouble a couple of times, so I didn't need to worry about when I got home.

Some schools still have paddling as a sentence or option .... most require a parents approval or notification .... some parents still add another spanking at home ..... though I never needed to ...

I remember the paddle hanging in the principals office. And I agree with you. Kids in my day didnt go to school with guns and shooting teachers and classmates.

How many times did you get paddled in high school and for what reasons? Did parents always spank you for it?
