Tell me the deeper meaning behind any of your tattoos 💉

Because I feel like sharing mine so let's make it a thing 🙏

When people ask me, I usually give a basic answer to avoid my life story. But there's deep reasons behind each one.

My first tattoo was "Memento Mori". It means 'Remember that we must die". An old Roman saying. I got it because I felt like I was chasing death at the time. Basically calling it out, daring it to take me. But it also served as a reminder to do wtf I want in life because we can die at any moment.
Later I had the idea to add a broken Roman clock to it, to symbolize time fading away.

The day I added the clock, I also added prayer hands, but holding up a middle finger with a thorned rose in it's hand. Underneath I got a quote I made up saying "just wait, it'll wither".
To me, that meant everything beautiful, will die. Life, love, everything.

Then here's my right side neck tatt. It's a tree of life, but half dead. Another symbolization of death & how temporary life is

Then there's my underarm tatt. Which is a Mac Miller quote (I have multiple Mac-inspired tatts because he was my favorite artist 🙏 RIP)

"Things like this ain't built to last, I just might fade like those before me"
You guessed it, another death tattoo. If you notice a trend it's because one half of my body will be dedicated to death, while the other is dedicated to life.
But so far most are all on the death side, because that's where I felt closest to for so long.

Then last, here's the lotus flower on my left side of my neck.

It looks different than the typical lotus symbols because I wanted it to. It's more than just a symbol to me. This one I got because it was based on my suicide attempt. I should've died but I didn't. & Eventually I chose life. I decided that I killed off who I used to be & I've been reborn (spiritually). So the flower symbolizes death.. but also life. The first of all my life-based tattoos. There are still no others yet.

That's not all my tattoos of course. Those are simply the ones that mean the most to me 🙏 sorry for the length (none of these pics are from NOW btw, & some were taken when it was barely finished 😅)

Now if you even finished all this, tell me about yours 😌 all, some, one. Any one you'd like to. I always love tattoo talk
Drew this one in AZ in the desert when I felt the truest to myself.

This one is for my mom, for my ancestors that guide me. I see red tailed hawks whenever I need assistance from the spirit world, they always show up.

I liked it better black and white, but I let my tattoo artist put his spin on it. Might get more shading I just feel cockatoo vibes from it now 😆

@BrokenAbyss oh my I just barely realized who you are 😮🤦 only because I remember you showing me that tattoo you drew (I don't remember if we were talking about tattoos or Arizona because I do live in AZ 😅).

I had a small thought a few times that it might be you but I didn't think about it too much. Hiiii 👋😌 sorry I didn't realize sooner lol but I was wondering where you disappeared to.

I love the tattoos though & your reasons behind them. But yeah I'd agree that the hawk one was a bit better black & white. I still like the color a lot though 👌 it's well done

“There is no exquisite beauty without some strangeness in the proportion”
(Speaks for itself I think)

a memorial for my friend and “would be” brother-in-law (needs a touch up and some added love haha)

Constellations are both my kiddos (Virgo and Libra)
The tree my mother and I both have (mother daughter)

I have plenty more but those are probably the most important overall
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@WaryWitchWandering oh I've seen some of those just from random pictures, it's nice to know the meaning behind some of them 😌🙏 they're all great. I love the constellation idea too. That's different than other ways I've seen people get things for their kids tattooed on them.

I love each of them really 🖤 nice ideas

I'll tell you a deeper meaning behind the placement of a couple of tattoos

Left wrist has a shamrock with mine and my sisters' initials, right wrist has an Elvis tattoo (a "bracelet"

They're all reasons for me still being here, and I got the tattoos there as a reminder on the days I wanna slit my wrists.
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@BarbossasHusband that's absolutely beautiful 🖤 sad but beautiful. I'm happy you have your reasons for life displayed on yourself. So the reasons will always be there 😌

I have a phoenix on my right leg that’s a reminder to me that no matter how bad shit is I’ll get through it somehow.
A quote in my left arm that’s a reminder that sometimes the best things are on the other side of fear
And a barcode tramp stamp that’s a statement on the commodification of women’s bodies but also just makes me laugh
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@summersong that's a good one, when I was a kid I wanted a Phoenix tattoo too, (for the same reason but also because I live in a city called Phoenix). As I got older though I decided against it.

You have some deep tattoos 😌 thats awesome. It makes me happy to know people have art to remind them of their strength
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
When I was about 23-25 I took an old walkman tape player apart and made a jailhouse tattoo gun using an electric guitar string for a needle.
First I put a question mark on my left arm.
The meaning was to question everything.

Then I got the big idea to have a buddy put a huge dragon on my chest.
I chose a Wavern. Mostly because it was a cool picture. LOL
But then I looked up the meaning behind it and found this:

"Because of their use in war and battle-related materials, they are known to some as symbols of courage and strength. Others may see the wyvern tattoo as a symbol of protection. In contrast to these noble qualities, the wyvern tattoos can be associated with vengeance and the concept of "slaying one's dragons."

I have many dragon to slay. :-)[/center]
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@Dainbramadge lmao my dad told me all about how to make those jailhouse tattoo guns with the little motor & guitar string 😅 I never made one myself but he used to do it as a kid to tattoo himself & his friends.
But nice man, those are neat tattoos 👌 & even though you didn't know the meaning behind one of them at first, you found meaning eventually so that's dope 😌 I don't think all tattoos need meaning tbh.. but it's cool to have in case anybody ever asks
CestManan · 46-50, F
I have a couple but they have no meaning, just strictly for looks.
Nasty · 31-35, M
@CestManan sounds sexy
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@CestManan well that's not a bad reason for a tattoo either 👌 some people act like they all gotta have meaning but I don't think so. I think if you like the look & want it, that's a good enough reason. Why not do something you like 🤷
CestManan · 46-50, F
@ChiefJustWalks If mine have meaning it is to celebrate my vanity.😁
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
I don't have any, but I just wanted to say how unique it is to have half your body dedicated to death and the other half to life.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@ChiefJustWalks hahah about tattoos, one of the coolest stories from people I know is my grandma's. Her and her oldest sister had the idea to take coal from the train and do a tattoo of the cross on their arms 😅 my grandma was just 9 years old. And she's one of the traditional people who don't support tattoos, of course. But she said "eh, we were just playing around doing stupid things like kids do". The tattoo is really faded and you have to know in order to be able to see it.
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@HannibalAteMeOut damn that's pretty funny 😅 my most random tattoo stories would be just getting off work, drinking with the homies, then tattooing each other 😂 i tattooed one friends whole hand black because he asked me to 🤷

Lol at least your grandma has cool stories though that's awesome 😌
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@ChiefJustWalks hahah like a glove?

Ikr she has some wild stories but I guess most grandparents do, different times.
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
I love the lotus and that you are still alive to share with us.
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@ChiefJustWalks We all feel that way, but believe me if you ever have to face your early mortality it changes you.
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@Fungirlmmm that's true. Something about it just opens your eyes in a different way
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@ChiefJustWalks Amen. Especially when an illness is gonna take you out
#Cleanskins ✊🏻
….. I’m scared of needles
Mardrae · F
I have 25 tattoos and none of them have any kind of meaning other than I liked them. I do have one that says “ Love hurts “ that means exactly what it says. And a lotus that has meaning because it represents overcoming bad things I have gone through.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
If I believed in getting tattoos my back would probably be covered in my own creations
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@MartinTheFirst nice 👌 I've thought about drawing some of my own tattoos. Well actually, technically I have since I drew the tattoos I gave myself 😅
