How long typically to break in new sneakers?

This is my 4th pair I brought home (the other 3, once wearing them a t home were a smidge too big. ) Ive never had this issue of once they are home they feel too big, or in this case, hurt my toe. But, i think I just need to break them in? Ive worn them a few different days inside, but it still hurts my big toe a bit...but, a little less than before. How long to break in sneakers?? I would like to keep these but I truly hope it doesn't continue this pain. (Only a few days left to return ughh)🙁
