Men's Crop Tops

Why exactly do men's crop tops make men look feminine? Is it just social conditioning or is there something intrinsic that social conditioning can't change?

Thanks for your answers, everyone. I've concluded that crop tops only look feminine if the chest is the main part being covered. And long-sleeved crop tops look feminine because they don't look functional. Functional dress = masculine. When showing skin in warm weather, a man would normally want the convenience of short sleeves before anything else.

Something like this looks masculine:

While these do not:

@MartinTheFirst I want to buy a crop top now. Something that shows just a little bit of tummy and has short sleeves. Would look nice with shorts. I'm not sure where to order from though. Lol. The shops here don't sell them.

@VeganYogi I think you want to be relatively skinny and probably muscular for it to look good as a male though, otherwise it might end up looking weird again. However, you could make one yourself, just take a short sleeved one you like, cut it where you want to, fold it up, and sew a bit, or take it to your local seamstress

@MartinTheFirst Good idea. Yes. I got a slight tummy recently due to the stress of working and studying. I'll wear a crop once I get back down to a flat tummy. It's autumn now so I have many months before crop top season.

Times change. I have seen a picture of people swimming 130 years ago. The men and boys all wore the same heavy two piece swimming costumes as the ladies.

Tank tops use to be the in thing for men in the late 1970s. It's a length thing.

Even I was wearing tank tops back then.

The problem was anything shorter was not allowed in certain places.

No shirt, no shoes, no service.

A shirt must cover the abdomen. Men have hair on their abdomens.

Waxing was always considered effeminate.

@VeganYogi ANYTHING related to puberty was disgusting in the 1970's for young men. You just didn't talk about it.
VeganYogi · 31-35
@DeWayfarer And is that still the case today? And what about armpit hair when wearing a tank top? I guess you just had to keep your arms down. Lol.

@VeganYogi not as much today yet it's still an issue in some parts of the USA.

I wouldn’t wear them
I think it's just social conditioning because men with wife beaters and their bellies sticking out look very masculine in a boomer way
VeganYogi · 31-35
@uikakarotuevegeta You could be right! Although, their bellies usually stick out because the wifebeaters are too small for their large bellies rather than them wanting to show their bellies. Lol.

You need those striped socks that come up to your knees and some silk running shorts to go with them.

They're like "skinny jeans": they look good on those 75 people who have the right body-type / build and hideous on everybody else.
its 80's fashion or its sooper ghay.
theres no inbetween.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout He kinda pulls it off without looking gay... Perhaps because of the time period. Perhaps it is just social conditioning.

They so popular for men in the 70s and the 80s.

Weak minded men said they were feminine. Watch the old Rocky movies 1, 2, and 3
