Bowtie? Or no?

I'm about to board the Acela train to NY Penn Station for meetings in NYC this afternoon and tomorrow. So I'm sitting here at the Providence Amtrak station and so far I've scoped four elderly gentlemen with bowties.

Two of them just look like retired guys who like to look dapper. One of them I recognize as a professor at my undergrad university here in Providence. I didn't have him, but I recognize him from around campus. Never seen him without a bowtie. The fourth guy actually doesn't look that old, maybe mid fifties. He's in a very nice suit, very expensive looking and definitely tailored. Maybe a banker?

So, do you wear bowties?
If yes, why?
If no, what do you think when you see a bowtie?

And girls... I'm asking you too! Do you wear them? What do you think of them? Or of men in them?

Let's talk fashion!

At my wife's hospital, traditional neckties are discouraged on hygiene grounds. So those doctors senior enough not to have to wear uniform, and who wish to cut a sartorial dash, often wear bowties.

On the childrens ward they theme each day of the week according to the colours of the rainbow 🌈 The consultant paediatrician has seven bowties in each colour. Every so often he will wear the "wrong" colour on the ward and the first child to spot the error is given a small treat . . used to be a bag of sweets, but now more likely to be fruit given the global obesity epidemic!
