Looks like they're ramping up the AI race

I hope EPAllie wins. I believe the EP site was first set up for bot/AI research, wasn't it?

Zuck and Musk are duking it out. I personally think the winner will be the one with the most resources including physical silver which is needed for components. There isn't enough of it right now, in reserve. They could move to copper but the copper is less efficient.

It's not apples to oranges. Silver is preferred thanks to its high electrical and thermal conductivity giving it an edge for power distribution, chip connections, and cooling management. Zuk has an advantage because his data centers are in physical plants, while Musk's are in makeshift plants, powered by jet engines.

But that's just one factor, and is a distant secondary relative to who gets the larger allowance of NVIDIA chips.

@Catastrophe The total value of all above-ground mined silver in the world is max $410 billion. That would be 1.74 million metric tons.

Nvidia's market value is approximately $5.45 trillion.

But I'm sot sure how you get something useful out of this apples to oranges data.

Musk cur a deal with the city of Memphis, to place noisy and polluting jet engines, converted to generate electricity, feeding non-permanent structures, he's been filling with racks.

In permanent structures, switchgear and circuit breakers use silver-cadmium oxide or silver-tin oxide alloys for electrical contact points to resist arc erosion and prevent oxidation during high-current switching cycles.

Silver plating is used on copper for busbars to minimize electrical resistance and reducing resistive heat waste under continuous heavy loads. Better suited for permanent structures.

But this may be nitpicking, because power transfer efficiency is the least of his worries, giving how much is wasted on redundant Tokens.
@Northwest Sorry, where did you get this data from ,precisely? I'm not finding anything like this: "The total value of all above-ground mined silver in the world is max $410 billion. That would be 1.74 million metric tons".

For Nvidia: late December 25- Jan 26, "silver briefly surpassed Nvidia in total market capitalization to become the world's second-largest asset behind gold, hitting valuations above $4.6 trillion to $5 trillion as precious metal prices surged. However, the position between the two frequently shifts back and forth; Nvidia reclaimed the spot above $5.5 trillion following major stock rallies"

Thanks for the other info - I didn't know "the installation functions as a "makeshift" power plant because xAI bypassed the electrical grid. Instead of waiting years for a local utility connection, they trucked in mobile gas turbines mounted to the back of semi-trailers to serve as a fast stop-gap power source. The "jet engine" description is also literal. The machines being deployed across the data center industry for this exact purpose are aeroderivative gas turbines."

@Catastrophe https://cpmgroup.com/how-much-silver-is-above-ground/

CPM is an independent commodities research group. If you enter "value of above ground silver", in a search engine, you're going to end up with a differently wild figures, depending on the route the search query takes. I'm pretty sure if you open another search tab, you're going to get another answer, ranging from hundreds of $billions, to $3 Trillion.

Nvidia: just enter "Nvidia valuation" in a search engine, it gives you spot NASDAQ value.

I still don't understand the correlation between the valuation of Nvidia and the total price of Silver. Other than these are two totally unrelated data points. Something like, I bench pressed 150 Lbs today, and a Mirabelle sourdough loaf was $12 this morning.

Musk is not the only party resorting to modified jet engines.

ooo. ai olympics. thatd be depressing

I have no idea who will "win", but I DO know that all the politicians screaming about water shortages because of Data centers are full of doodoo.

Data Centers can and DO use waste water for cooling. They do NOT use drnking water OR crop water.

Who’s EPAllie?
@RedBaron AI bot on EP. There is a group here for her.
