Charlie Kirk...

People, people... It is OK to be happy that someone's dead, it doesn't mean you indulge violence. It just means that you have a rational head on your shoulders, if the guy was a little shit.

I have to say that I disagree on this one. It's an ugly human quality to be glad when someone is dead, particularly if they have an innocent wife and children. I could agree if the person had committed horrific acts but that's not the case here. He was no murderer, no rapist, no abuser. He had very strong and , to some, controversial opinions and was somewhat of an antagonist. I can think of many like that who I don't agree with but I wouldn't be happy about seeing their blood spilling out from a neck wound as they're assassinated.

@Nightwings ya but theres more effective ways to stand up right? What did this accomplish? Hes been dead a few days and theres been only more hate
@Nightwings Killing him is not standing up against him, it's just murder. We can't just murder people who might say things that we don't want to hear. There are many influencers out there promoting dangerous and corrosive messages. It's not ok to kill them. They aren't even doing anything illegal until or unless they directly incite violence. I can think of many people that I don't agree with who have a position of influence but I can't sanction their murder. That is not how you defeat ideas. Anyone who disagreed with Charlie Kirk was free to disagree with him or ignore him. He was not setting policy, he had no power to do that. He was just saying what he believed. I think that's important, even if those beliefs are ugly and for as long as they don't amount to a crime.

@TryingtoLava I mean who cares? He's just one person, but one person in a possission that allows him to cause real harm to the public, when hundreds of good people die in gruesome ways every day. If there are other great ways of standing up then do it ffs. Americans are doing nothing, which causes the few who actually care to take drastic action for their message to be heard at all.

@ostfuidctyvm Now you're just ignoring the entire point of my post: Being happy that bad people die doesn't mean you indulge violence. It doesn't make it OK to shoot people. That doesn't mean we should be sad when bad people die.
@Nightwings so your feeling of powerlessness justifies murder? Okaaayy then thats pretty MAGA of you
@Nightwings ya im done with this its going nowhere which is sad cuz i really like her

@Nightwings we dont live in different realities thou i literally commented i think hes terrible hahah did you read that idk why were going back and forth
@Nightwings My original point was that it's an ugly quality to be happy about the death of someone who had not committed any grotesque acts of violence or abuse. It's not a quality of any kind of morality and it's as hateful as rhetoric that may have inspired that hate. I try not to let myself go there. In my more psychopathic moments I could be glad that anyone is dead, or that everyone is dead, but I recognise that I don't want to be that person.

Simply not caring that someone is dead is another thing. Nobody says that we have to feel every death. It's not the same as revelling in someone's death.

@ostfuidctyvm in Ukraine right now, people do shoot the recruiters as a way of standing up to the kidnappings, thereby the transgression of human rights. It is not mourned every time one is shot. The more stuff like this happens, the closer we are to people truly standing it up against it to a point where it will make a difference.
Uh oh, SW has recommended that this conversation is not continued. I've not seen that message before, but I'm gonna respect it 👏
@Nightwings cuz recruiters force them physically by force kirk just ran his mouth
Nightwings · 31-35, F
@TryingtoLava That is a good point, but promoting propaganda is dangerous to people's lives as well, for example when children die due to not getting vaccinated.
@ostfuidctyvm no no thats not for us its for peeps that cant engage in civil convo like us 3 are having rn cuz were not volatile
Nightwings · 31-35, F
@ostfuidctyvm I still like both you guys if you disagree with me, just so you know. We can just end this conversation now if it's too intense at the moment. I really don't mean to upset anyone.
