I'm not sure these days.
When I was younger I noticed how often people have bland expressions even when something interesting is going on, so I cultivated a pleasant, cheerful expression.
But then over the years I found that people jumped to the conclusion that I was very happy, even when I was not.
I think my default expression (when talking with someone or elsewhen) has become more serious as a result.
