I hope some new maritime laws are made because of this incident.
It should be a example of what not to do in regards to safety. And safety of the public.

@DeWayfarer I agree. Every sub, private or public, should have a transponder for times just like this.

@DeWayfarer I don't know about making laws. But for sure they need redundancy systems.
And at least two submersibles. That would be like going to the moon, but maybe one could
tow the other if they were in trouble. Know doubt things will change now.

@DogMan it takes laws to enforce anything. No matter what it is. A few have mentioned hubris. Only laws can enforce against hubris.
BTW there is laws for space vehicles in order to launch them to begin with. And they are enforced through verification by the US government.
This submarine just was never verified by anyone. No laws required it. Warnings though were given by two different agencies, which went unheeded.
That's hubris.
