Little girls are tough!

I just came back from watching a softball tournament where a couple of girls I coach are pitching against each other. It's 106 for the ambient temperature in the shade, and on the field its 115. The umpire was about to melt and took frequent breaks to put a new ice towel around his neck and get something to drink and made sure the girls got something too.

Both teams were hard core. It was 5-5 going into the 7th (the last inning for girls) and they were killing it. Making plays, sacrificing their bodies, sliding , and playing as hard as they possibly could. In the end a sweaty hand caused an errant throw and lost the game for one team, but its amazing how hard core 14U girls play. I remember playing in a lot of long hot tournaments and not being able to move for a couple days after because I was so sore and dehydrated. I dont know what makes them do it, but it was an honor to watch them work together as teams and play at such a high level.

@SW-User They were playing at a high level due to hundreds of hours of practice and lessons and working on their own. Each team was all in and gave it everything. Bloody knees, scrapes, sweaty dirty uniforms...and they loved it. Its wonderful to be able to catch a game like that.

@TexChik It is! I would have enjoyed watching 2 teams play that vigorous

I've played and coached for 50 years and still love the competitive spirit at that level.
I’ve been in Dallas a couple of times with my daughter’s for soccer tournaments. Being from Canada they had to push through when they played games and the heat was just like you described. Congrats to both teams for playing through…

@submissivelittlewoman was it Dallas proper or a nearby suburb?
@TexChik Farmers Branch

@submissivelittlewoman I know right where that is. Been through there many times

That’s what we do down here! We know it’s gonna be hot yet the boys and girls push through. BTW what a great WCWS this year. And it was hot in OKC.

@JesseInTX OU played really well. Texas was not ready to play. Oklahoma girls are hard core about softball from the time they can pick up a bat. All blonde, slim and about 5'8" , beautiful, and run like deer.

@TexChik proud of my Lady Horns for even getting to the championship. First unseeded team to ever get that far. They were ready, just overmatched. OU was definitely the class of NCAA softball all year and they showed it. Props to them.

Always great to see the fighting spirit in sports. Makes watching real worthwhile. Win or lose, the fact they tried their best is all that matters 💜

They're very determined at that age. Know their priorities. Me? I used to still pretend wooden branches were lightsabers

@iamonfire696 brings back a lot of memories . My daddy took me to almost all the tournaments and he caught my pitching practice everyday while we just talked about everything. Those were golden moments that I will always have with me. What I wouldnt give for just one more.

@TexChik I am happy you have those memories but I am sorry he can’t see your daughter play too.
