When did you start entertaining your baby with tv?

My 3 month old is so amazed by television. I noticed him watching whatever we had on intently. So, I decided to try a simple nursery rhyme show. HE LOVES IT. Whilst feeling the excitement I felt having found a new and solid way to keep him busy.....I realized.....screentime is bad for babies they say! Ugh! It's one of those things actually, we said we won't ever use tv as a tool with our baby but then in the moment you're so desperate for a moment of peace you completely forget how against it you were .... Hey??? Relatable?

I've heard people say that before. Someone said that when Teletubbies was on, it was the most peace they'd had in years lol.

In any case, I don't think there is any radiation or anything that comes from the TV, definitely not if it's an LCD.

I feel like you’re getting that parenting experience that all parents have when they realize that their kid is of course going to watch tv. I don’t know a single person who grew up without any tv. You know if it’s too much, and just the fact that you’re concerned shows you’re a present parent.

Some shows are high stimulation, while others are lower and we tend to go for those. Either way, there is no one size fits all kids. They have their personalities and temperaments. I have to tailor my parenting style to each of their needs.

@Flenflyys thank you. I've considered that too like, literally all babies and kids grow up with some kind of technology for sure. But can we really say everyone is turning out okay?? 😅

But yeah I think I'm going to do it when I really need to. I don't have help it's just me and sometimes I really need to get something done and he needs entertained. So, he will be fine

My kids liked “Hey Bear”, “Baby Einstein”, and “Super Simple Songs” when they were babies. I think as long as it’s here and there it’s does no harm.

When they got older 1-2yrs old they liked Yo Gabba Gabba a lot

@WaryWitchWandering super simple songs is exactly what I'm using. He LOVES the one that starts out with humpty Dumpty.
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
@Notsimilarreally it’s fine to use here and there so you can tend to household stuff or even take a breath!

@WaryWitchWandering exactly 💯 final decision. Lol 😆

Just be careful they did a study and only mother to child close contact develops language skills so you still need to do at least an hour a day of close mommy and me time face to face.
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
@Muthafukajones I'm full time with him. There will be no shortage of that. He is already trying to mimick me lol

@Notsimilarreally I mentioned it because I used to think that my niece would learn Portuguese because I used to watch Portuguese shows while baby sitting her. I watched a documentary that said that the necessary brain stimulation does not occur when watching a screen in order to develop language skills. It most be person to person and indeed preferably a higher or female voice… brains scans show the child’s language centres light up more in response to mummy’s voice or daddy’s play voice but not daddy’s normal voice or tv. Though you might be interested.

@Muthafukajones that is interesting, thanks. I'm trying to get dad to use a different voice. He is not keen on baby talking

I think it’s okay to give yourself a break. I did the same with my kids. My youngest liked Yo Gabba Gabba, Peppa Pig and stuff like that.

You need to take a win when you get them.

The best part at that age is you can just kinda watch whatever you want because it doesn't really matter yet.
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
@MethDozer maybe some people. I've found myself editing our tv preferences in front of him though...the violence blood and gore we see so casually on tv now days, he doesn't need in his precious little developing brain 🧠

.....I don't know who I am anymore 😆

@Notsimilarreally Best to familiarize and expose when young to avoid any later life trauma seeing. You gotta callous up a kid
