Worries about pregnancy and post partum depression

I am not even pregnant and I don’t know when I will be. But I worry so much about how my body will handle pregnancy and if I’ll develop post partum depression because I have MDD along with GAD and BPD. I just want to be the best mom I can when it’s my time.

Are you sure it's a good idea to have children when you have MDD, GAD, as well as BPD?

@MartinTheFirst I understand what you mean but I am on a really good place now and I have a lot of my issues under control with medication and therapy. I don’t think it’s fair to tell someone they shouldn’t have kids because they have a mental illness that they didn’t cause. I think if you are trying and you are getting better, you should get a chance if you know you can be a good parent and have the necessary tools. Now, if I had an issue that caused lack of empathy or remorse, then no, I wouldn’t have kids.

@Justbekind24 I mean not only for that, while those things are very valid concerns as well, it's also a very high risk of your children getting those mental disorders as well, not only due to genetics, but also due to the environment they will be brought up in.

@MartinTheFirst the good news is, BPD doesn’t run in my family. It’s from my upbringing and there are things you can do to help build resilience. No one l, not even a child brought up by parents who were “perfect”, have a perfect life, every one makes mistakes and learns from them. I have thought about all of these things. The last thing I want to do is create a human being that will just suffer. I know that mental illness can be treated and therapy is a great tool. I want to create more kindness in this world and a way I can do that is by having a child and being a good parent so they grow up and put goodness into the world.

@Justbekind24 I suppose that MDD and GAD isn't running in your family either then. To me it sounds like a risky endeavor, but nevertheless it's your choice. I hope you make the right choice, and manage to live a happy life.

@MartinTheFirst I’m sure it’s risky for everyone no matter what, lol. But thank you.

@Justbekind24 Yeah, everyone should reconsider it a lot more than they usually do.
