Today I was re-purposing our daughter's Time Out corner

It's a little alcove in the hallway where a fireplace once stood. We put a beanbag and some blankets there for when she needs to calm down, think things through, or "practise being quiet". I thought as she will turn 15 this month she may have outgrown it. Daughter was not happy and asked me what she is supposed to do when she is in a bad mood and nothing is going right? Idk, lurk moodily at the bottom of the garden like other teenagers 🤷‍♀

Anyhow, the beanbag has now been reinstated. And daughter now has a peace lily and a Swiss cheese plant to keep her company next time she pays a visit 😌

Awwww! 💖💖💖 Bless her heart! 😥😥😥 One is NEVER too old for a time out corner if it helps recharge her and keeps her at ease! 😇😇😇 I am 40 but I have a time out place myself which is somewhere with a bar for me to hang upside down as hanging upside down is my time out corner as hanging upside down helps recharge me after work! 🙃🙃🙃 If her time out corner helps her my advice is to keep it! 😘😘😘 You and your lovely wife are both lovely moms to a lovely daughter! 😌😌😌

@MommyLucy She was a bit upset that I was changing something that is familiar to her . . we were advised by her old childrens home to set aside an area in this way. I really should have talked to her first before moving things around . . lesson learned for next time 🙂

Dad made our upstairs bathroom our time out place. He told us when we are in a bad mood to go in there and light a candle and turn on the shower and the lights off and listen to classical music. He even got a furry cover for the toilet so its comfy to sit. He says falling water creates positive ions that make you feel better. I guess that's why you never see anyone in a bad mood near a waterfall lol.

Dont' be too hard on yourself, hon! You are a caring parent, that's more important than anything. So many times we hear about parents who are not. HUGS

I love that she wanted to keep the time out corner!!! What a testament to making that concept work in a healthy way.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Fallflower Yes, it's a bit of a balancing act. We don't want to punish her for the occasional emotional outburst, just help her to find a coping mechanism.

@SunshineGirl I couldn’t love that more.
I had a tree I would climb when I was that age and in a bad mood…..never had a time out corner, my parent would say “ go climb your tree”.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@FreeSpirit1 A tree sounds a great idea for a teenager. Just far enough part for you to have your own space for a little bit.

I loved climbing trees when I was younger. Not so good at getting back down again though 🤦‍♀
MommyLucy · 36-40, F
@FreeSpirit1 I still climb trees sometimes as It's fun and I also LOVE hanging upside down by my knees from tree branches! 🙃🙃🙃

A book of pictures to colour in... Soothing for the soul🤗
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Convivial She loves drawing and colouring. But we don't want to make Time Out corner too attractive!
Convivial · 26-30, F
@SunshineGirl easy fix... Give her the book but no pencils 🤣
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
You might put a few books in there. Maybe a few short story anthologies and or poetry.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@MoveAlong I got told off by my wife for putting in fairy lights last year and making things seem a bit too comfy!
