Help find the right age-appropriate clothes?

My daughter Clara has six years old and 1’5” tall at 18 pounds. She has Primordial dwarfism. Shopping for clothes that Clara can wear has been a huge struggle. We’re trying to find inappropriate clothes for her, but the only clothes that fit Clara are meant for newborns or very young toddlers. It depends on the brand but right now Clara still fits in is between newborn and eight months. And for shoes she is in a size 2 and 3 in infant/toddlers depending on the shoe. Even some newborn clothes don’t fit her right because she isn’t “chubby” like a newborn baby is, she is “thinned out” like your typical six-year-old child except smaller than a newborn baby.

It’s hard to find clothes that fit her that are also age-appropriate for six years old, and for shoes we haven’t really found any that are small enough for her while also being meant to really walk around in. The shoes that fit her are men for babies and toddlers who aren’t walking around quite yet.

Would you have any suggestions on how we could find clothing for that would be more age-appropriate?
check online and see if there are any companies who specialize in that sort of clothing. if you cant find anything on a google search, thats probably a bad sign. you may have to get custom made.

This brings to mind that some retailers have special order abilities that streamline the process and constrain the cost for special needs.

A good example of this is Nordstrom that accommodates those who wear miss-matched shoes, like left and right feet are different sizes. Most everywhere else would require buying 2 pairs, one to fit the left and another that fits the right. Nordstrom will sell you the 2 pairs, but give you a refund for the 2 miss-matched you don't need. Supposedly they have an arrangement with the manufactures that can recycle the unused shoes. So effectively you end up paying for one pair of shoes rather than two. A small fortune in cost difference over a lifetime.

Retailers may exist that accommodate special sizes but don;t stock an inventory of special sizes. Ask around.

@Clarashelper american girl and our generation are a couple brands that make 18 inch doll clothes in some cute styles she might like. would have ot try them on though to see if comfy but probably can return if she doesnt like them or they dont fit.

@Penny how would you go about introducing them though? At some point I’m sure she’ll figure out there Barbie doll clothes but right now should I just tell her that they are or should I say I found some actual clothes?

@Clarashelper just because they are made for dolls shouldnt matter. as long as they are comfy and cute and fit right?

I would say depending on your budget just get her baby clothes if the budget is tight and spend the bulk of the budget on quality shoes since that's probably the hardest thing to find in that size since babies don't need functional walking shoes.
If the budget is not so tight find a Taylor and just have custom made outfits to complement the baby ones.
Fortunately enough these days a lot of baby clothes look like miniature adult clothes or bigger child clothes, it's not all onesies anymore.
Try finding out if any private (as in not a business) taylor works near you for a middle ground solution.
For example my mother did quite a few custom things for my son .. I would recommend her to you but we're probably not on the same continent :)

@kayoshin good idea. Even with newborn baby clothes that’s not perfect because Clara isn’t “chubby“ like a newborn, she is I guess you’d say “thinned out” just like your typical six-year-old or younger child except she’s just smaller than a newborn baby. But that’s a good idea spending the majority on shoes for her that she can walk around in.

@Clarashelper you could learn to sew at a low level just enough to take her clothes in to size. It's not that hard for basic work and you're going to get the hang of it with practice. This would mean you can get affordable baby clothes and slim fit them. I promise you it's not as hard as it sounds. I dabbled with it as a 12 yo kidd and managed not to sew my hands in :)) and a sewing machine is dirt cheap these days. Assuming you have the time to dedicate to learning a new hobby/skill it could save you thousands in the long run. On the other hand if you can dedicate the same time to something more lucrative you can do that and pay for the professional.
I think It's a matter of finding what would work for you best in the long run.

Have you tried to search "Little people clothing" or "dwarfism clothing". I just did and got lots of results. I didn't explore them but it's worth a look. I even saw one result and saw one that looked like it was created into a business out of self need.

Possibly try shopping at ethnic or culture focused retailers, those where the customers would be culture biased towards cultures which are generally smaller.

Like Asians are smaller than Europeans, and within Asia's subcultures some Asians are smaller than others. Where do smaller Asians shop for clothes? I don't know, but there are 3 Asian supermarkets nearby and a half dozen nail salons staffed by Vietnamese-Americans. Maybe I could go there and ask where they get their clothes.

Maybe go online and look for a home-based tailoring studio which makes custom clothing.
It’s normal to be pretty tiny at 6 years old. She’s now a little girl but a toddler outfit or older baby clothes might not look that out of place. It will be a problem when she’s older. Specially made clothes for dwarfism will be the next thing.

@Gingerbreadspice right now though Clara is wearing clothes that newborn babies are wearing. Shoes as well. You’re saying this is OK?
@Clarashelper Yes if they’re only ones that fit and she’s happy to wear them. Not a full baby suit though.
Go online to find specific dites for apptopriate clothing. Search perhsps clothing for small people, etc.
