Seeing a bit of yourself in your offspring

I love nothing more than being a dad, but there are times when I get worried that the things I don't like about myself are being passed down to my kids. Despite as much as I try to not let them see the issues.

We all want them to have better lives, but it takes a toll too.

Just a thought. Carry on.

Same here. My whole life, before my son was born, can be wrapped up into three words, "SEX, DRUGS AND ROCK AND ROLL.
All I ask for is that my son's lips never touch a drink, a drug, or a cigarette.

Actually, that was more than 3 words, wasn't it? 🤔

Always a fear...and I have a bad habit of focusing on nothing but the bad. They're going to get the good as well. Hopefully the experiences we've been through will help us help them. Maybe they will put it all together better than we felt like we were able.

I had the same fear but now our son and daughter are grown with families of their own. They seem to have absorbed all of our good qualities and none of the bad ones. We couldn't be prouder of them. Now our grandchildren.....

Communicating with my children everyday makes me see myself in them. The winging and sensitivity came from me.

Yup. I consider it learning and I try to change those things to set a better example.
I feel the same as a mother.

Lol I think my kid picked up on alllll her dad and my worst traits. Such a perfect little mirror of myself to prompt making positive changes and self growth.

I don't have kids, love being an Uncle. I have spend as much time as I can with them, especially now their father passed away. There was some dispute over whether the kids were actually his. But I swear little TJ is100% like my brother when he was that age and Kylah too.
