Who usually cuts the umbilical cord?

One of the support people usually do it. The mother almost never does. Source: I've had kids and I'm a nurse 🙂

The mum would have a hard time cutting the cord but it's possible but not usual

The newborn should do it. Very symbolic.

The mother? That sounds complicated...

Doctor usually offers the father.
I'm sure it's something that could be worked out either way with a clear birth plan and a chat with with the dr a few weeks before the due date.

The only exception would be if the baby is in distress and needs medical attention ASAP. Who is doing it won't matter much at that point.

Whomever you want really...for my daughter it was a friend of ours....that was 32 yrs ago and his eyes light up if you talk about it to this day

Where I reside. as long as there are no complications...the parents can decide who will cut the cord.

I have heard of the father being given that honor, but with my kids it was always the doc or midwife..

I guess priority is the dad otherwise whoever is available. Mother not so...

I am not sure who usually does, but my mum cut mine. Maybe anyone who you choose.
