@smiler2012 If Laurel and Hardy were alive today they'd both make better leaders than those two clowns. Lol :)

By Having rules and consequences for not following them.
LadyGrace · 70-79
You take away something of value to them for a period of time, the amount of that time, depends on the offense. Then stick to it. Don't give in before that time is up, and you don't make statements you won't back up. If you say you're going to do a particular thing if they continue their ways, then do it. It's crucial they know you're not a pushover and mean exactly as you say.

We try to separate discipline from punishment, even though those lines cross. Basically we use reasoning over and over again. If that doesn't work, we will look at natural consequences, but if they are not appropriate, we will punish through time-out, removal of privileges and more direct punishment if needed.
proudmartikahooker · 31-35, M
I spank them from time to time

@proudmartikahooker that is your call
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
There is no one-size-fits-all approach that works. It depends on many things...the age/sex of the child, the emotional state of the child, the circumstances that brought about the requirement of the discipline, and the emotional maturity of the parent...

Talk about consequences and how they can do better next time
.its a learning curve ..I like to point out that they learn by making mistakes and it is ok as long as the learn from that

I honestly don't know. I had an easy kid.
The first thing you do is try to get out of them why they did it. Then you explain the reason it was a bad idea. Then, you give some sort of punishment. Which for him... was usually just a delay or a reduction of something he liked.
I honestly think the kids who need punishment are the ones who are not getting love and attention. If you (as the adult) do your job... there is little need for punishment.

Time out, lost of privileges.

Having a balanced relation with your kids where openness and honesty prevail makes the need for discipline less.
First talk about what they did wrong and what consequences that has will alter their behavior
