Do children have too many toys these days?

This was a typical toy 100 years ago. Do you think the evolution of toys has helped or harmed kids?
I still go down toy aisles and find everything super interesting, but I think they're so damn elaborate. They can be overwhelming. Simple things are best, I think. Lots of times you see kids playing with the boxes toys came in instead of the toys.

That is so very true. That has always been my experience as well!

Kids have too much stupid crap

I think it is a problem. We give kids so much and never allow them to be bored or to have any need for creativity. I think it ends up making spoiled, entitled children who don't know how to think for themselves. Obviously, it doesn't make new toys inherently bad. Some of them are quite good. However, overall I think we are simply teaching our children that they have the right to be constantly amused and that they don't have to learn responsibility. Why bother to care for a toy when you own so many?

I love this answer and all I can do is agree with you. Everything you have said is exactly right in my opinion! Thank you! 👍

I don't think the difference in toys has helped nor harmed kids. Toys are just toys

I don't think that it's necessarily the abundance of toys or technology that is the problem, but the lack of morals and family structure that has harmed kids these days. People don't stay inside all day every day because they're lazy; it is because they were never taught the benefits of the outdoors and why it's one of the healthiest things for you.

I think we are trying to make kids grow up too soon. And it wasn't 100 years ago. I loved lincoln logs. The only difference was my grandfather made them. We weren't like the rich kids

Lincoln Logs were invented in 1916, but I do know that many children had them growing up. I think they might still be around today!

@NineLives: they are!!

Nice factoid. I had them when I was a kid , but i didn't have to keep up with the latest trendy thing likes kids seem to need to do today

Yes...they do, but I'm pretty guilty of getting it for them...
NineLives · 41-45, F
Don't worry, I am guilty as well! 😊
