I've been on the receiving end of this for years. Or they think you're miserable. I'm actually happier than I've ever been. Broke and busy, but happy :)

@StokedFox Right! Yesterday I had a conversation with a pastor who'd made assumptions about my being a single parent, "I can't imagine how hard it is and what you go through." I told him being a parent (married or single) is hard.
Then I proceeded to tell him for me, being single is in fact easier because I don't have to contend with the personality of a spouse, just my daughter's. Then he reflected how his daughters would trianglate between him and his wife. I don't have that problem. I also shared although my daughter and I have had some problems, we're a team and she knows she's loved.

@zeeva70 YES! It is hard but I thought it was harder when I was married! We still get along but when the three of us are together, none of us really enjoy ourselves. I think parents not being together all the time is maybe the way it should be. Works out better for most that I've seen.

@StokedFox Good for you!
Although I tried, I don't get along with my ex and I don't lose and sleep over it at all. Been there. Done that. And I've earned the joy I have. Our daughter is happy too, with no more of the questions she had when she was younger. I think it's up to each of us to carve out our own happiness.

A happy single parent is way better for the children than an unhappy couple.

@SW-User This is so true! That's why I got a divorce. I didn't want my daughter growing up seeing two people at each other's throats. And even if we didn't argue in front of her, you can't fake being happy, living in a toxic environment.

@zeeva70 As a kid who grew up in an environment of domestic violence i can say for certain you did the right thing. Kids are really susceptible to negative emotions, some more so than others.

I don’t.

@Waymore He doesn't even know himself why he did it? He sounds like a nutcase to me.

I don't know. I know quite a few single mothers and I never try to make them feel bad. Their circumstances are not their fault, are they?
