I love my mom. I would do anything in this world for her. She gave me a great and wonderful childhood. We have a very close relationship.

@SW-User That’s great. Do you have similar personalities? How did she treat you when you were young?
SW-User
@Love4All yes, we do have similar personalities, but I have a mental illness and she is a big part of my support system. She treated me wonderfully as a child and teen. She always supported what I wanted to do in life.

Nope.... she sucked at being a mother

@Peaches Love your insights. I just wish I had gone to therapy for all that conditioning before having kids or had recognized I could do something to change my behavior instead of focusing on being angry with my mom
She still frustrates me so much but I try to check myself to see why ( self therapy 😁)

I do. I'm the only one she gets along with and recently, she's the only one I get along with. My parents separated. My mother lived as a housewife and had a hard time earning when they separated so my father supported the entire family. I'm the only one who visits my mom. My dad and I were really close but he became distant when he found out I'd been visiting my mom as well.

@ryoshi0915 I hope things can get better. 2 of my children are divorced. One has a good relationship with his ex, good coparenting of their son, my daughter and her ex have a terrible relationship.

He is okay with me visiting her. It's just that we used to hang out a lot and I was like his favorite child. Nowadays he refuses my invitations and sometimes I don't get invited in family dinners and outings.

@ryoshi0915 that is a big "except!" So sad.

NO, because she was mean and hateful. If you've ever seen the movie "Mommy Dearest" then you met my mom!😯

Yes, we get along as well. One reason for this is our deliberate avoidance of certain topics.

She is a bit judgemental and overbearing, but I love her and accept her as she is.

Half and half.

No. I didn't get along with mine.

Would anyone like to elaborate on their answers. I am wondering what’s like to have a great relationship with a mother.
And also what’s bad, I don’t want fall into the “bad mother” category.

I did - sadly she's gone now. But whilst we may have had arguments, disagreements etc. over the years we got on well I think. She was always glad to see us, we saw her at least once a week - often 2 or 3 times a week.

@SW-User I’m sorry.
That must’ve been so nice.

I loved her with my heart and soul.
20 years gone this Christmas and I still have all her written letters she sent me when I lived in the States.
She was pure magic ♥️❤️

I didn't have the chance. She died when I was 11.
