Update on the kids
Today has been absolutely horrible for them. Today they had to say goodbye to their daddy. 💔
I won’t share what they said to him in the hospital. Those words were real, raw, and painfully honest. They came straight from their little hearts, and some things are just too sacred and heartbreaking for me to put into words right now.
Now we’re home, trying to figure out how to do this part.
Buddy and I gave each of them one of Daddy’s favorite Royals shirts and hats. Just something of his to hold onto. Something that smells like him, something that reminds them of him, something they can wear and feel a little closer to their daddy.
The boys are curled up together in his recliner, wrapped in his fuzzy “man blanket.” Sissy is curled up in their big bean bag chair beside the fireplace, wrapped in his favorite Royals blankets.
His chair. His blankets. His favorite team playing on the TV.
Everything around them is so familiar, but somehow everything feels completely different now.
The Royals are winning tonight, but I don’t think anyone is really paying much attention to the game.
They’re just trying to get through tonight without their daddy.
And I think that’s all any of us can do right now. 💔
