End of an era
I received a panicked text from my daughter at school yesterday telling me that she had lost her PE kit. Normally I would be tempted to ignore this, as I must have done on the 132 previous occasions that she thought she had forgotten or mislaid her possessions, and let her find them again or work out a solution. But yesterday was very different as it was the day of her PE practical exams.
Me: "Where do you remember last having it?"
Her: "I think I left it on the bus."
Me: "But you walk to school, you don't use the bus." 🤔🤷♀🤦♀
So I rummaged through her wardrobe and assembled a bag of gym and dance clothes. Not strictly school colours, but passable in the circumstances.
School reception recognised me immediately (I am an all too frequent visitor) directed me towards the gym where the class were preparing for their exam. I reunited my daughter with her leotard and offered appropriate words of reassurance.
Her lovely teacher asked if I wanted to stay for a bit as her group was shortly due to do their gymnastics routine. Daughter was very keen on this idea so I put all thoughts of productive work to the back of my mind and watched three very talented young women give the performance of their lives 🤸🏽♀🤗
And so ends an era. No more forgotten PE kits, no more interruptions at work, no more intense teenage trauma.
Until, that is, our 10 year old starts big school in September 😌
