All of a sudden I realised that it was unnervingly quiet in my daughter's bedroom

Peeked around the door to find her and her usually very noisy friend painting each other's toe nails. Purples, greens, sparkles . . homemade anklets, friendship bracelets, and scrunchies to accessorise. She doesn't have an interest in any other makeup, but nail varnish is colourful and fun and she is really good at doing it . . much better than I ever was.

A nice peaceful thing for teenage girls to do together, but over-fussy mama of course remembered that both had drama and PE on Monday.

"So is Miss F alright with nail varnish?"

A shadow briefly flickered across my daughter's face, then disappeared again.

"She'll be cool".

So that's sorted then 馃檪 And if it's not, I shall weigh in on their behalf. Because they are doing no more than bringing a splash of colour and sparkle to school at the beginning of the week. And they are both the image of the fun, quirky, creative girl that I always wished to be at school 馃寛

@Convivial So am I, but she's too busy gassing on the phone to the friend she has spent all day with to pay me much attention 馃ズ

@SunshineGirl teens... Friends come and go... But mothers are eternal

@Convivial When I did eventually get a word in . . she has convinced herself that her own internal logic or weight of personality has won out and she can do what she wants. I checked this understanding with her PE teacher this afternoon who just wearily said, "I'm not getting into an argument with a teenager on Monday morning over nail varnish" 馃ぃ

@SunshineGirl I think that's one smart teacher lol.... The only problem I foresee is learning that sometimes other people's rules are Trumps, as in cards, not American presidents lol...

@SunshineGirl yes, the" wearing down through constant argument" effect comes into play
