Panic over

So we got to meet our daughter's friend-who-is-a-boy-but-definitely-not-her-boyfriend.

The good news is that his intentions are wholly honourable. He plays on the school rugby team and has got her onto a training programme organised by oir local professional side, which she is thrilled about.

The less good news is that the infatuation seems all one way. We were worried about over-active teenage hormones, but he was like a rabbit in headlamps for most of the time he was with us. The look on his face, while daughter was rearranging his schedule next weekend so he could watch her at gymnastics, was priceless 🤣

So I think we can put aside the pepperspray for now. I am trying to manage my daughter's expectations just in case. She gets swept away by her enthusiasms and does not always listen as closely as she might do or read tell-tale signals. It's a necessary learning curve, but painful nonetheless.
