Guys, when you see your “loved one” is unhappy do you empathise or avoid the issue in case it’s something you did?

Most of the time it's not something I did, and if it is something I did, I still empathize.
exexec · 70-79, C
Empathize and do whatever I can to help her. I don't want my loved ones to be unhappy.
subhubby · 56-60, M
I immediately show empathy and try to attend to her in any way I can. She will either direct me or ask for quiet time. I follow her instructions obediently.

i apologize and then try to compensate if it was something I said or did

Why is it always the male who has done something wrong?

The wife could have received some bad news and this has made her sad
I avoid the issue because someone in my family is always mad for some reason or no reason at all.

Im trying to do more of the latter and less of the former..

I would sit down and talk to them about whatever is making them unhappy and seek to find a mutually beneficial solution

Empathize. Always.

I simply ask why they’re unhappy.
