What’s the longest you got grounded for

@thepreposterouspanda There ought to be a law against that. Birthdays are regarded as sacred in my neighbourhood.

@Crazychick Mine were never treated as anything particularly special but that year was rough. Would have helped if we hadn't been living on a college campus and mom and dad hadn't just been ignoring my existence though. Pretty easy to get into trouble under those circumstances.

@thepreposterouspanda Why was your dad ignoring your existence? That behaviour is also frowned on where I come from.

@Crazychick They were both going to classes. When I was 9, they decided to go to missionary college and dragged my three siblings and I along for the ride. I was the oldest so I got put in charge of watching the others.

@thepreposterouspanda You were only 10 and they left you in charge? This is getting to sound worse.

@Crazychick It wasn't a great time. After they got done school, dad pastored two churches (one in Florida, one in Canada) and then we ended up moving five miles from the house I grew up in where they still live. I wish they had just kept us here and let us live normal lives instead of doing what they did.

@thepreposterouspanda Couldn't they have got some older relatives (aunts, uncles or grandparents) to be put in charge of you? That's what people around here do when they want to pursue other activities.

@Crazychick They probably could have but decided not to for whatever reason.

It's something I'm getting angrier and angrier about as I get older. I might not be disabled if they had actually made sure our health was okay and I might actually have relationships with my siblings too.

My parents have gone down the religious rabbit hole again and I just don't have time for it at this point.

@thepreposterouspanda that’s just cruel, I would have still let you have a birthday party.

@SW-User I had stolen some money from them over the course of a month or two, a few $20s here and there. Needed it for whatever and maybe I felt like they owed me or something, I don't remember. Dad beat the hell out of me, I was grounded for a long time, missed my birthday, and had to pay back double what I stole.

@thepreposterouspanda Why didn't you tell us before that you'd stolen some money? I don't feel so sorry for you now, in fact in a way I feel you've deceived me.
