Very sad thinking of Father's Day

My dad passed on Valentine's Day this year..from only a month battle with aggressive Lymphoma. It's been difficult everyday because I know how much he suffered the last week. He could have no chemo Bec it was so aggressive, and developed pneumonia. So not only was his body being attacked horribly inside from cancer, he could barely breathe the last few days.

I miss his quirky sense of humor and low key aura. He loved watching Criminal Minds with me in his nursing home, or Chicago P.D. This weekend is the first Fathers day he will not be here. It's just really sad. I don't know what to do that day. I'm thinking to maybe buy his favorite meal perhaps and chocolate cake, one of his favorite treats.
Any other ideas celebrating Father's Day if your dad has passed? 😢♥

@Punxi Thank you for sharing that friend...I did not have an idea I was aiding you at all. So this is your first Fathers day without your dad too😟
How do you think you might celebrate him this weekend?
my dad loved soccer...he was german. he loved that sport and watching/coaching his 2 boys play...we'll watch a few games this world cup....his urn is 5 feet from me.

@beermeplease I'm sure he'd be very honored you are keeping up his love of soccer 🌼⚽
I feel you. Father's Day can bring up a lot of emotions. When I lived closer, I'd visit his grave, but I haven't been able to for the last three years since I'm away. Now I try to remember him in small ways. I think getting your dad's favorite meal and a chocolate cake sounds like a beautiful way to honor him. 🫂💙

@mindstruggle He's still with you even if you couldn't make it to the cemetery. 🩷 Thank you, I think I'll definitely celebrate him with those treats at the very least.

Was his remains interred? We go to the graveside of our son on his birthday and eat cake like he is there with us.

@hippyjoe1955 I visit our sons grave, and normally have a Jack Daniels and coke for me and one I spread over the grass and a cigar for me and I light one and leave it next to his plaque

Is there a friend of his who you could spend some time with, sharing memories of him?
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@DrWatson He hadn't seen his friend in many years..but I can share memories with my sister 🌻 Thank you Watson🌟
You can honor him by reliving the things he used to love — food he liked, activities you used to do together, places he enjoyed visiting…

Although the logical side of our brain knows that eventually they will leave this world, nothing really prepares us for when that happens. And it has already happened to you.

Dont focus on the sadness of missing him. Do the things that will make you happy because that’s what he would have wanted for you. 🌷 🩵

@CookieCrumbs I appreciate your caring words 🌺 I think I'll buy his favorite cake and maybe binge a few episodes of Chicago PD. He'd have enjoyed that ...and that's true he'd have wanted me to enjoy too. Thank you 🌸

A homemade Valentines Card might be appropriate, a way to express your daughterly affection for him.

Celebrate the day by keeping him close to your heart. Remember the good sides of him, think of the things he did over the years ... If he's in a grave, visit it (in my belief system, the visit is for you not him because he's not there 😉). If he had a favorite restaurant or activity, go there.

Things like that.
I'm sorry💙 I hope you can honour him in whatever way brings you comfort

Celebrating Father’s Day when your dad is deceased can be deeply emotional, but doing something to intentionally honor his memory can offer comfort. You can celebrate by engaging in one of his favorite hobbies, cooking his signature meal, writing him a letter, or visiting a place he loved.
