This article points out that Jesus was asked to leave once He undermined the social order (reminiscent of how Peter asked Him to leave once he gave him a huge deluge of fish), by exorcising demons out of the town scapegoat.
The "demoniac" had carried the burden for all the townspeople, and been their "peace" in a way, by carrying the demons they put on him.
By not returning said demons BACK TO the townspeople (and instead allowing them to enter the pigs), Jesus turned the pagan rule on its head: the GRACE He demonstrated was by topsy-turvy-ing that social construct.
Jesus RESTORED the man to his right mind, and left him CLOTHED. He was VINDICATED, and the townspeople could not suffer that truth!!
This is why I love Jesus. He was The Ultimate Rebel. He didn't come in to be popular or JUST create peace. He came in with a SWORD FIRST, overturned tables, stood alongside prostitutes, RESTORED people to themselves, their right minds, their reputations.
He was a FRIEND to those who had no friends or standing. There were times when He was my only friend aside from my cat, dude. I would be curled into a fetal ball wanting to die, but He has been my true Exodus.
I have often compared myself to a pool filter....If they want to swim in their own ish now, so be it. I am OUT. It is only my job, now, to pray for and forgive my enemies.
