Got a call from my daughter at 8.25pm last night

The two little girls she was sitting for in our neighbour's flat next door had gone missing while she was getting them ready for bed 🤷‍♀

They hadn't gone too far and I found two very giggly and slightly damp girls in pyjamas in the second place I thought of looking, the shed at the bottom of our shared garden 😊 Brought them back and sat in the living room while my daughter finished putting them to bed.

Overheard from the girls' bedroom: "I'm SO DISAPPOINTED in your behaviour" 🤣

Daughter eventually joins me on the sofa, raises her eyebrows and sighs as though the weight of the world is upon her shoulders. I hold her hand in silent solidarity. I was not tactless enough to mention the obvious irony in that two weeks previously she'd captivated the same pair with tales of how she used to escape through the windows of her old childrens home to avoid having to take a bath at the weekends 🤣🤣🤣

The need to escape must be part of the human DNA. Maybe part of our need to bond? Like part of the fun as a child in hiding is knowing that someone is looking for you. To hide for hours, then surface to discover that no one was looking for you was such a downer.
