an easy misunderstanding.

Reminds me of a story from a friend of my late father who was teaching his grandson about knives, forks and spoons. He explained to his grandson that this item was a fork and it had four prongs.

Shortly afterwards his grandson found a fork with three prongs and triumphantly shouted "look grandpa a threek, it has three prongs ......"

Adults in my family used to talk about "seeing the new year in". I heard "in" as "inn" and imagined this was the mysterious drinking establishment that my father spent rather too much time in 😳

Quite logical, I'd say. ☺

@Piper I remember being confused by the word "toast" when I was little.

good times..
Imagine when she becomes an adult and learns that everyone else doesn't eat toast for the new year.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@SinlessOnslaught She will learn that long before she is an adult. But I bet that when she is an adult, this will be a cherished memory.
@DrWatson Why does everybody take everything so literally lol
