I think reasons like carrying on your name/legacy, having support when older, having someone to love and love you, etc are all extremely selfish reasons.
I never really WANTED to bring any new humans into this crazy world. But the fact of the matter is that children will exist as long as humanity does. And too many will be abandoned or mistreated. Someone will need to step up and care for them and so I chose to do that.
Then nature took it's course and I did end up having one of own lol. I wouldn't have gone through with it unless I was certain I could provide her a good life.

I can’t speak for everybody else, but I don’t know why I wanted kids. I just did. I don’t want my children to take care of me now, nor when I get older. I don’t care about them carrying on my family name. I never had any future plans for them, since I believe in them making their own plans and setting their own goals. I care more about them having the skills they need when they become adults and them living happy and healthy lives. That is all.
I've always loved babies and children . They are precious . It's this ugly world that I don't think is fair to bring them into.
That said all the good I am was enhanced tenfold by having my child. They are the light of my whole existence .

I like being around kids. I like the way they see the world- everything is vibrant and exciting and new. Being able to have someone to give all my love to sounds nice. Watching them grow and nurturing their development would make me feel really good.
I still don't want kids though. Too much time, money, and sacrifice. I'm tired enough as it is. And the world is so uncertain these days, it just seems cruel.

It's a kind of love and fulfillment nothing else can bring you. They are your legacy

Someone to love and be proud of, I reckon. Hey, that actually sounds really nice

Some people find it fulfilling I guess, they see it as a stage marker in life etc.
