The CTC (Child Tax Credit) lifted children out of poverty, didn't cost much and the Republicans refused to extend it

"Reinstating the CTC expansion that President Biden signed into law in 2021 would lift millions of children out of poverty every year, which evidence shows would have numerous additional benefits—reduced food insecurity and financial hardship, improved health for children and parents, better school performance, and reduced incidence of child abuse—for children, their parents, and their families. Indeed, the benefits extend into adulthood and far exceed the expanded tax credit’s cost."

Investment in children not corporations already turning record profits.

Where does it stop as my tax burden keeps going up & up and i can't afford more taxes
Nobody should get a refund higher then they put into the system
@pdockal corporations do
pdockal · 56-60, M
@JonLosAngeles66

WTF does that have to do with anything ?????
@pdockal corporations get refunds without paying in all the time. And they make record profits and sit on cash. Every cent of the CTC is spent. Directly put back in the economy.

@JonLosAngeles66

Again that has nothing to do with my taxes & the fact that people get refunds who didn't pay taxes

@pdockal Most democratic governments have a mandate to promote economic growth and prevent avoidable social harm. Tax credits to the poorest are fair and equitable at a time of rising prices. And they are a sounder economic investment than tax breaks to wealthier people who are more likely to store than spend the returned money. By keeping people healthy and fit for education and employment they pay for themselves many times over and will in time reduce the need state intervention and redistribution of wealth.

@SunshineGirl

Doesn't matter if there is a mandate or not
If you put zero in you should get zero out
They have programs to help these people

Education and training are what's needed so they are working and contributing to society
@pdockal
Again that has nothing to do with my taxes
DEAD WRONG!!!

If corporations paid taxes at the individual rate, there would be a YUGE surplus and all taxes could be cut. A 2021 study by the Congressional Budget Office found that effective tax rates for profitable large U.S. corporations averaged around 9%. In fiscal year 2023, the government collected $444 billion in corporate income taxes. If we implemented a level 15% minimum income tax on corporations, that would increase revenue by a factor of 15/9=1.6667 or about $300 billion.

Yes, $300 billion in additional yearly revenue WOULD affect your taxes.
Nobody should get a refund higher then they put into the system
Would you be willing to implement that on the state level? No state should get more federal spending than it contributes? Because that would certainly shake things up; the red to blue subsidy is what keeps many rural states afloat!!

Why is there such a subsidy? It's because blue areas are far more productive economically.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@pdockal Well it does matter, because that is what people expect of their elected governments. If we universally applied the logic of no individual or corporation receiving more than they contributed in tax, most large infrastructure projects would never get started and the economy would stagnate.

Conservatives are supposed to support small government and trust people to make their own decisions. To my mind, putting money into peoples' pockets and allowing them to decide what is best for their family, rather than leaving it to a bureaucratic social security scheme, is a fairly unremarkable conservative policy. But unfortunately it aopears to have become politicised.

Education and training are less effective when delivered to hungry children with unstable family networks.

@SunshineGirl

where do you live ?
my taxes are out of control
the national debt is ridiculous
i can barely pay my own bills & also have to pay other peoples bills
its not fair that you take from me to let others (who do nothing to deserve it) have it
give them the skills to go out & get better jobs that pay better in stead of a hand out
dont have so many kids that you cant afford & put themselves into greater poverty
these programs do nothing to advance people or make their situation better
we arent socialistic & we the people dont want to be
pdockal · 56-60, M
@ElwoodBlues

again you put your two cents into a place where it isnt warranted
giving people free money doesnt help them & hurts those of us who bust our ass for the little we have & you take it from me to give to them .... thats wrong
all your charts & alleged statistics prove nothing & dont even look good
it has nothing to do with my comment in the first place
go back under the rock you crawled out from
@pdockal using your logic, if you can't afford to live in this country maybe you should leave.

@pdockal Dude, we live in a majority rules society. So it doesn't matter if one of us doesn't like buying a fleet of bombers at $1 billion each. And it doesn't matter if one of us doesn't like $20 billion/year in agricultural subsidies. Your feelings don't matter, because the majority chose it.

So if you can't afford your lifestyle in our society, that's on you dude. Either you change the majority opinion, or your change your too-expensive lifestyle.
Of are you one of the ones getting everything for free because your a freeloader ??????
As I showed you, the freeloaders tend to be RED states, and I strongly suspect you live in a freeloader state.

pdockal · 56-60, M
@ElwoodBlues

No we don't
We don't get a vote
Congress does whatever they choose
Sometimes they run unopposed so we can't even attempt to vote then out
Where i live there is a community who voted as a block for the politicians that are in their pocket (not going into the nuisances of that)
We're not in a true Democracy
@pdockal No, we're in a representative democracy. When was the last time you saw a "true democracy" on Earth??

"Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…" — Winston Churchill

Debating ?????
More like talking to a wall
@pdockal Really? What wall will tell you that we live in a majority rules society. So it doesn't matter if one of us doesn't like buying a fleet of bombers at $1 billion each. @ElwoodBlues

Majority rules
That's a fucking joke
Most programs wouldn't exist if majority ruled and congress did what we wanted
They lie & manipulate & cheat to get elected then do whatever
How many have pending litigation?
How many use inside knowledge to become millionaires ?

Your data is fucked up
Unfortunately i live in a fucking liberal state and an always trying to change it

As for the majority ... those who get the hand outs outnumber those being taken from so that won't change

Like i said tax everybody @ 10% and no more fees which are just a different way to tax me and no deductions and we can ask live better
