@OlderSometimesWiser It's just weird. Why are some people so obsessed with other people's feet? It seems to be an English speaking thing. I've been told to leave various shops in the US (once even from a flea market!) and in England (Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons) but I've never had any negative reaction to going barefoot in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Netherlands, or France.

My feet have been mentioned a couple of times in IKEA and Aldi in the UK but that was simply a warning that someone had smashed some glass and that i should be careful while they cleared it up. In Aldi it was the manager of the shop who said this to me and he must have seen my expression as he started the conversation because he went on to reassure me that me being barefoot was not a problem. I wonder if it is significant that both of those companies are not from English speaking countries.
@ninalanyon I’ve definitely been giving the subject more thought thanks to you. 🙂

Interesting, was just watching one of my crazy reality shows and the man, (from Brisbane Australia) was trying to convince his girlfriend (who’d just moved over from the US) that it was perfectly fine to go barefoot in the supermarket. And sure enough, the market had no problem with it. So maybe not always an English speaking thing.
