The only way to find out for sure is to make them hate you.

You're in the position You're in because it's your life you're living. Keep living it. Whether or not you're loved or appreciated for it is out of your hands. Just assume you're loved and appreciated, otherwise you will be having negative thoughts about people you should be loving and appreciating too.

Thank you for that.
I feel the same way, but the my wife's love for me is gone.
My kids are on their own and Im retired now, working part time, and dearly miss the love from my wife

They might take all of that for granted right now and get wrapped up in just getting on with their lives because they all feel very safe and haven't had to think about how blessed they are but trust me, if one day they were to wake and you were no longer there, their hearts would be utterly smashed, never to recover again. I know this because that is exactly what life was like for me and then my husband died. The hole he left in all of our lives is unfillable.

@OutoftheGloom I am really sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how devastating it can be.

I guess I am just craving for some appreciation while I am alive. It's really struggling for me.

@justanotherone you are appreciated. I think as women we can over look mens feelings because they are not always demonstrative or wordy in the way women are but they show love and care through being steady, dependable and very practical. If I had another day to let my husband know how much appreciated he was I would in a heartbeat.

@OutoftheGloom You should talk to other women and teach them.

I certainly hope that you are genuinely wanted. Some days I wonder that myself.

I believe these to be common thoughts of most men who are forced to work hard to provide stability to those around them.

I guess the only way we ever really find out is by falling flat on our faces and to see which people genuinely care and try to help, and which ones disappear as we’re going through it.

Too often I think, men find out the hard way that it’s the latter and then once we know, we can’t ever not know.

It’s what I found out after 19 years with my ex-wife. I tried to ignore what I knew and tried for another 10 years to just be that guy. The knowledge ate away at me and I finally filed for divorce.

I guess nobody said it would be easy and I should have always suspected it would be as hard as it is/was…

Good luck out there.
