I feel like I need a change. I like working hard but I think I’m missing important things.

I leave for work when my kids are asleep, and I often return from work just before they go to bed.

I’m fairly certain we could live off the income I have from my rental properties. But I think my family have become accustomed to me providing things for them that would be at risk. The weekend classes for my kids, horse riding and music lessons. The social events and trips me and my wife attend.

I like working and I don’t resent providing these things, but I’ve woken up with a fear that time maybe pass so quickly that my kids will go from being kids to young adults with their own lives, and no time left for us to just have fun together.

I’ll start small and push in more times at weekends where it’s just the four of us doing something together. I’ll talk to work to see if I can step back from some of the requirements for travel to London and overseas. Then see how things proceed.

I guess one day I’ll look back on now as the good old days. So I need to make the most of it.

Could be a good idea to have a family meeting.
Explain to them what you have posted here. Get their reactions. They might volunteer to give up some activities so that the family can be together more often.
I feel you, life passes so quickly and there must be more to it than work and sleep, rinse and repeat . It is why I left my job, sold my house and moved.

I don’t have dependents, so it was a much easier decision for me to take.

But yes, I would say step back and start winding things down. Your family might appreciate more quality time with you than some of the other activities they are doing now.

You are a long time dead, so you might as well make the most of your time now.
