Sister or brother?

I don’t have much to do with my brother which is a shame but we have got on via email very occasionally the last few years. I do wish I had a sister (as well or instead?)

I have a sister she is 4 years older. I dont know what i would have done without her in my life

@nevergiveup that’s great I’m am envious - I just feel it would be a much closer and supportive relationship
I had 4 older sisters - - the 3 eldest were each old enough to be my mother.

@rinkydinkydoink we tend to think stereotypically about families the reality is often very different

I'm lucky I guess. My brother & I are very close. Not so with my Sister, she doesn't let anyone get close but we still love eachother dearly.

@MistressPoppy yes I guess it depends on their character as much as their gender

I have 5 siblings, 3 brothers and 2 sisters and thankfully all are very close, and regularly have family meet ups to celebrate birthdays, holidays etc.

@Celt50 that’s very nice / such different experiences which must be such a strength

I understand that I only like my sisters although I haven't talked to anyone in my family for years now.
level1 · 61-69, M
@Lostpoet seems much more common
Two sisters, one brother (who is currently staying with me). I’m the eldest. I’m closest to the middle sister.

@bijouxbroussard that’s nice that you have close relationships

I visit two of brothers on separate weekends. My other brother actually lives down the street from me and we see each other regular. And since our other brother has passed away, I get his kids each school holidays for a week. We're all pretty close.

@Thevy29 I love when it works out, sorry to hear about your brother though
One brother, one sister. On average we talk or text a few times a week, get together about once a month.

@ElwoodBlues Nice sibling relationships there

I’ve have two brothers and one sister the sister has been more useful even though I’m not biologically related to them

@Birdbox1986 yes blood not thicker than water sometimes

I haven't spoken to my brother since 1999. I see my sisters once or twice a year, and talk to one of them at least monthly.

There's no hate — we're just different people living different lives. None of us are close. If any of us died, the others probably wouldn't even know.

I think it traces back to the hostile environment we grew up in. We learned to shut each other out, and seeing one another just brings that childhood back, so we keep our distance.

@HumanEarth yes there is all the history to OU can choose your friends but not your family. I hate all the soppy stuff around families though I appreciate some have the best relationships
HumanEarth · F
I sometimes get jealous over families that had that had that perfect "Leave To Beaver" life. But when one thing falls about in their world. They fall to pieces and can't handle a crisis
level1 · 61-69, M
@HumanEarth true you just have to get on with it and no drama

It's not always what it's cracked up to be. I have an older brother and 2 older sisters. My oldest sister and I have been disowned by the other two because of political beliefs!!!

@Rabbit420 that's a shame, seems to be a chasm between the two sides
