Question her on the pain; where is it; how does it feel (hot, stabbing, cramp, etc). If she starts getting coy it's BS. I call my mum out on things like this and her go to is, "there's no need to panic", which translates to, "I'm a liar".
If she can answer the questions well, locate where she says it is and if it's a muscle pull you should be able to feel lumpiness in the muscle and she just needs to do the usual medication; heat and cold etc. Beyond that I can't help.
