how to deal with the stubbornness of a child

walabby · 70-79, M
Wait 20 years. Then it's someone else's problem...
Missbirdie1986 · 36-40, F
@walabby that’s if they are able to find anyone
PinkMoon · 26-30, F
The hand of an adult.
rolex928 · 31-35, M
@PinkMoon yet they become more stubborn
KingofBones1 · 46-50, M
I was stubborn as a child honestly and I have now become stubborn as an adult. I don't have to lay hands on a child I know how to speak to them calmly without losing my cool but the tone in my voice and the look in my eye usually says it all 99% of the times they stop their behavior

@KingofBones1 they want ice cream and if they don't get it they scream 🤯
KingofBones1 · 46-50, M
@rolex928 all it takes is for the strong firm but fair spoken role model to hold the child shoulder look them square in the eye and quietly but firmly explain to them the error of their ways and the possible consequences and nine out of 10 children will not push it much further once they see that you mean business
Ask them why they’re feeling/behaving as they do. Walk them through their emotions.
rolex928 · 31-35, M
@666Maggotz they always want ice cream
@rolex928 maybe try and compromise with setting ice cream to certain times of day? I don’t have kids but I’m the oldest of 9 kids, so I do have some experience with tricking children 🤔 have you ever made “ice cream” from bananas and other fruit? Just don’t tell them it’s fruit.

Situational. Look at why your child might be acting "stubborn". Is it related to the stage of development they are in? Are you asking something of them they find particularly difficult or stressful even if you do not see it that way? Are they having emotional issues or do they have a history of trauma impacting their behavior? It really depends.
Bleak · 36-40, F
Tough question
rolex928 · 31-35, M
@Bleak obviously though answer
By being an even more stubborn adult
by being an adult ^.^

If they persist in being stubborn, hitting or not listening, have them stand in the corner, works everytime.

Read some Early Church Fathers to them, i think Saint Ambrose would do the trick!!
Zonuss · 41-45, M
You get to the root of the problem. Talk to them and see where their anger is coming from..
@Zonuss Pure horseshit

@NativePortlander1970 No you are. You cannot resolve the issue unless you get to the core of the problem.
Back in the day they got a couple of swats on the backside to get their attention to stop their nonsense, it was quite effective.
