With strained relationships with our parents, we look back and wish things had been different. Especially after they are gone.

I believe it is up to the parents though to ensure the relationship is a good one. Doesn't even matter how old the "kids" are.

@CestManan honestly, do I wish it had been different? Sure. Did he deserve it to be? Hell no

These are difficult questions and so often the type that never really get answered. Is this something you can discuss with your sister?
@SarahAndSamantha So you don’t think she’d have any insight into why your father treated you so differently?

@OlderSometimesWiser We talked about some a few months before he died, when she told me he had lung cancer. He didn't even want me to know that. She, bless her, was really pushing for us to 'make amends' with each other. I had to give her more insight than she could give me. lol. Love her, have no problem with her, but a lot of it she didn't even realize.
@SarahAndSamantha Parent-child relationships can be so mystifying. Just glad you have your sister. 🙂

Sometimes there just are no good answers. Sometimes the answers hold so much pain that you can’t bear to speak them aloud….and even more often, that there is no one there to hear them even if you did.

Your father may have been in just such a situation and just never knew how to change it, or to reach out to you. But you have to make peace with that conundrum, and not judge your self worth based upon the unknowable.

@blackarcher256 Oh, you've misunderstood. It's not my self worth that is being judged here. I only judge him.

I sacrificed everything to raise my kids, provide for them, and never left. My daughter hates my guts. So it goes…
