When I was a child, I had a C in one of my classes, my dad asked why I didn't have a B, I worked harder next term and got a B, proud of myself, I went to my dad with my marks and he asked me why I didn't have an A. When I got an A he asked why it wasn't an A+. At the time, I thought, "there's no pleasing the man." But looking back, I realize the message was to work to my potential, not just to what it takes to get by. It is a lesson I didn't even know I learned. It has done me well to know it.

That eventhough racism can't be beat, it can be overshadowed by love.

That when people tell you it's going to be okay, they are often lying to soften the truth.

My parents were good people. They taught me that my life's goal should not be to make a lot of money, but to help make life better for other people by using my God-given abilities and the opportunities that come my way.

well appart from the basic like washing myself, going to the bathroom by myself, eating etc they did teach me some skills that have impacted my whole life like making french crepes and downhill skiing.

It can't be life-changing if my parents taught me and it's all I knew since I was born.
I suppose it could be something I learned contrary to what my parents taught me. My parents were religious and what I learned was that they did not live by the teachings of their faith and I saw firsthand how horrible religion was.

That it’s easier to lead with civility, whenever possible.

SW-User
@bijouxbroussard Giving civility doesn't preclude love, or expressing anger. But I admit knowing the bounds and tact is difficult. I really wish as I see so many people struggling, where they become angry over things they may never agree with, they just finally admit, I want to understand but I can't..
Thank you
that they did in fact do the best they could do with what they had at the time.
