"deadbeat dads" - Most men behind in child support payments earn poverty-level wages; if a man loses his job or otherwise suffers a loss of income, it is very difficult to get the amount lowered; meanwhile, the debt piles up, along with fees and other surcharges. I've heard of a guy who, even though his kids spent lots of time with him, the court did not care and threw him into jail anyway. Family courts only care how much you can pay - that's it.
While the judicial system is quick to throw men in jail for inability to pay, it usually looks the other way when mothers deny fathers access to their children; there's no money in enforcing visitation orders. The government, with its draconian rules, creates "deadbeat dads."

@graphite I have known both kinds of families personally. I know men who are paying when it seems to me they should not be, and I know mothers and children who have been abruptly abandoned. While I feel sympathy for the men in the first situation, that does not lessen my disgust for men in the second.

@graphite The system forces fathers into a nightmare situation, I've watched it happen. Most fathers are seen, by the courts, as nothing more than a debt slave and a scapegoat.

Now they just need to find a way to extract overdue child support payments from deadbeat mums.

@bijouxbroussard And many just keep on driving. It does help, but many had no intent to pay and will never have any intent on paying child support.

@Ontheroad In some of these southern states there will be many more children, ergo more demands for child support. And this being the internet age, fewer places for folks to hide, more people looking. It’s a fallout I imagine a lot of "prolife" men especially didn’t consider.

@bijouxbroussard Yep, several more and often by several different mothers/wives.

In Australia you are unable to leave the country if you owe child support as your passport has been flagged by the federal government

It might work in some states. Probably not in Taxachusetts. Not a lot of big hunters here...plenty of hobbyist fishermen, and many who would be ticked off if they couldn't fish legally. Of course, they would just drive up to fish in Maine and New Hampshire where the fishing is better anyway.
I was once married to a deadbeat Dad. My son was 16 years old before they started attaching his biological father's wages. All those years my son was growing up I said to myself..."This guy is a freaking NUCLEAR ENGINEER and he can't manage $70 a week?"
I used to go in to court over and over again and the judge would drip honey with his voice and say things like, "I am SURE that this young man WANTS to pay his child support."
Toward the end, when I couldn't almost couldn't fight anymore, I would go to the court house and start shaking. Just being there made me shake. And the ex was off making more babies.

I once had a job tracking down deadbeat dads for Denver County Welfare. I caught one but I let him go when he started crying. I lasted six weeks at that job.

And that's how to get the attention of a man anywhere. Take away his toys.

Whats to stop them from just driving to a neighboring state..
bijouxbroussard · F
@Vin53 43 states will suspend drivers licenses for delinquent child support.
Lmao.. got em good 😅

A compulsion to fish and hunt contributes to deadbeat dadness? I guess that makes sense as both require being away from home.
