Do you think that the art of conversation is dead?

What's your personal opinion? I was talking with a neighbor today and he more or less said the same thing. It could be face to face or on the telephone.

Hmmmm.....it can be. I think people are just wrapped up in their own thing, sweetie. I get some, at work, that I can just chat about any old thing - naturally, whilst I'm doing the work I'm getting paid for! - and other's that just can't abide communicating with others...

The occasional grunt in my general direction, y'know?

It's not gender specific either.

@Stereoguy Absolutely, sweetie....

No, I don't think that it's dead....but I do think that less people are interested in getting into a meaningful conversation these days than was the case in the past.

@DragonFruit You're so right. I want to sit and engage as much as I can. Or even go out for a walk or run with others. I'm not giving up
Rutterman · 46-50, M
No, it's not dead, but there seems to be fewer people interested in engaging in worthwhile conversations than once was the case. That's my impression anyway.
Yes, people talk far too much... 😂💖 But yeah it's difficult to get to the sweet spots of conversation, most people are only interested in small talk, at least in person. It's a bit easier over the phone/voice call I think.
ReneeT · 61-69, F
@lovelywarpedlemon I've always liked to see the person's face when we are talking, Facial reactions are definitely part of the conversation. That's why I enjoy sitting and gabbing for a while
@ReneeT I do too, I like to sit and drink coffee in cafés.
ReneeT · 61-69, F
@lovelywarpedlemon I don't drink coffee (tea for me) but I love to sit and talk just like you do
People think twice before sharing.

Not as robust as it used to be but certainly not dead
Lilymoon · F
Yes unfortunately .... if it isn't dead it's surely dying a slow death. 😕
ReneeT · 61-69, F
@Lilymoon And that's what I am afraid of.

Not dead, but certainly not well. These short choppy tweets and Facebook post and the rest have restricted most people too much less detailed communication. Worst of all is TLDR too long didn’t read.
oldercanuck1 · 70-79, M
i find it easier to talk to someone face to face ,, i am hard of hearing and the phone just does not cut it ,,,
ReneeT · 61-69, F
@oldercanuck1 I do like to see the person I am talking with more than the phone also. Looking eye to eye makes the conversation more intimate
oldercanuck1 · 70-79, M
@ReneeT yes and you can see if you are making your point or boring them ,,, lol
Northwest · M
No, it's not dead, but technology has given us about a million ways, to avoid the conversations we don't want to have.
hub and I always have meaningful intercourse
ReneeT · 61-69, F
@saragoodtimes Glad to hear, Sara. Hopefully a few meaningful words are spoken!

caPnAhab · 26-30, M
I never really considered it to be an art
ReneeT · 61-69, F
@caPnAhab It can be if it is very animated.
Darin99branch · 56-60, M
Face to face, especially over coffee or such. Slowing down and personal interaction is necessary. With texts, email, and fast pace it is not lost but seems fleeting. Damn bullet point society… 😆
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I think things are certainly minimized to a text or email and people aren’t interested in face to face conversation.

So I would say it’s changed.

@iamonfire696 I didn't realize that. I hope that things can change for you soon. Meanwhile I do enjoy our little talks on here. 💖

@ReneeT I struggle with a lot health wise. This place gives me some social interaction and I appreciate all the kind and wonderful people here including you 💖.
RebelFox · 36-40, F
I’m tired of talking. Less talking more fucking.
Allelse · 36-40, M
Most people are fuckwits and are best ignored, a bunch of fucking energy vampires with their ridiculous views on the world and their "Well you know my mate Bob told me that he read somewhere" explanation for everything. And I oh but I know better than the foremost authorities in their field. And they're getting worst and worst!!! And neighbors?! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! "Oh but the fence is 1cm onto my property!!!!" and "Your cat took a shit in my garden, but on a side note I bought 60 tons of manure for my roses".
