There actually is something wrong with a family staying together as you say. It's one thing for aging parents to leave their own home and come and live in one of their kid's homes in later life, but it's quite another thing for their kids to have never left home in the first place.

Never be coveted by your parents. Those words are even spoken somewhere in the bible if you're a bible reader, which I'm not.

I know there are people who live with their parents and never get out from under their thumb....but i know people who don't live with their parents who suffer the same and i know people who live with their parents and contribute to the household as an independent adult.

I'm just not sure that you've got sufficient grounds to make a blanket statement about a family unit staying together through generations.

I don't live with my parents but i don't think it would be an inherently negative thing to do so.

@swirlie adults never know when they are going to go through bad times. There are times I couldn’t work because of medical problems. I didn’t have to move back in with my parents but I did give me money to help me. Why should we be made to feel ashamed of it?

@swirlie In Europe you often find three generations occupying the same home. This has been happening for centuries. Are they all wrong too?
