My great-uncle on my father鈥檚 side of the family was widowed when he was in his late 60鈥檚. He started riding the Greyhound bus visiting relatives here in Oklahoma and also in Arkansas. He came to visit us several times and told us he visited some cousins in northern Arkansas. And that they lived like the stereotypes we saw in movies (was thinking Ma & Pa Kettle movies) . Wouldn鈥檛 put up a clothesline to dry clothes but would hang them on tree branches to dry. The women did the bulk of the work and the men were really laid back kind of letting things go. This back around 1970, don鈥檛 know if much has changed in the area or not.
