Hmm. Language is the bridge of communication. At least the two sides should make effort to learn a common language and narrow the gap in communication that could cause lots of problems.

All I can say is my own parents shared one common language which was neither of their native language. German!

If you both will to learn two different languages. Yes sure. But if you both feel uncomfortable, I suggest both of you sit and discuss about it.
