What's the strangest dream you've ever had?

Well, I once dreamt I was on the African veldt, lost.

I had no idea of which way to go. On one side of me there was a herd of elephants with a big bull elephant looking very menacing, opposite to them was a large tree 🌳 with a leopard sitting up in its boughs, some wildebeest were close by and also a recently drained waterhole with several buzzards pecking at the mud on the side which was drying rapidly in the hot sun 🌞.

Suddenly I heard someone approaching me, heavy feet, and scared I turned, there was an elephant calf, who looked at me with that childish sense of fearless enquiry, and as I met it's stare, it tossed it's little trunk up in the air, and with a distinct white Rhodesian voice it asked me, "Are you lost?"

My mind rushed back to my first meander down the Walworth Road alone aged ten, in my little summer frock, when I bumped into a middle aged man under the railway bridge, who asked me the same question!

In all of the more than 40 years, with just one short redundancy, of full-time employment I do not recall dreaming of work more than once.

Until I retired, a few years ago. Then my one common-theme though not strictly recurring dream, became of my last place of work. The locations in my dreams have always been very strange versions of real places; and these work-place dreams were no exception, with the location, buildings etc. becoming not only different but more and more surreal with each. These dreams seem becoming rarer now though.

Of the people in these dreams, one or two would be familiar as former colleagues and the rest at best strangers though more commonly drawn not as "real" people but as merely vague, unidentifiable palimpsests. Each a misty shape signifying, "Here be a person". That phenomenon has been common to almost every dream I could recall.

("... recall". Bear in mind that we normally forget most if not all of a dream's contents or even its occurrence pretty well immediately on waking; to the extent that some people say they "never" dream.)
.

The one work-dream while I was employed? I worked in a room that held a large, open water-tank. I dreamt I had returned from a holiday to find the room had been turned into an open-plan office in which the tank was now an ornamental pond complete with water-lilies and I think, a fountain. Daft enough, yes; disturbing in that the dream's narrative displaced me; but it would not have been so bad if I had not dreamt it while I actually was away on holiday!
